ShadowMaker Studios is a small, fast-moving, multidisciplinary team of creative and technical video game development professionals based out of Seattle.

We are a making a game that uses sophisticated wearable sensors to create an immersive and completely unique gaming experience. We guarantee this is like nothing you've ever seen before.

Great advances in technology come from visionary leaps forward in UI and UX. ShadowMaker wearable interfaces allow for intuitive hands-free avatar control without needing a keyboard or mouse to play. We also implement sensor fusion and state analysis in real-time to allow the virtual world to respond to the user's physiological state changes on the fly. Pretty awesome, right? We think so too.

Accelerometer

Delta x, delta y, and delta z. Just like your momma used to make.

Gyroscope

Rotation about the x, y, and z axes. Or “pitch,” “roll,” and “yaw,” for those of you who prefer aviation speak.

sEMG

sEMG is the measure of muscle activation which occurs during movement, or static tension associated with stress.

ECG

ECG is electrocardiography, and it describes heart activity. It is also sometimes called EKG. If you’re “flatlining,” that means your ECG is flat and your heart has stopped. That is bad. ECG can be used to extract R-R intervals, Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and much more.

EEG

EEG, or electroencephalography, literally means the electricity coming out of your head getting graphed. Brain activity produces electrical potentials which can be measured. If you’ve heard of brain states (delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma), EEG is one way to measure those states. It can be used to quantify sleep level. It can also be used to assess degrees of focus, and the scale of mental stress vs relaxation.

Haptic feedback

Yep! The sensors go buzz buzz buzz! There are haptic drivers and small motors on each sensor module to create a physical sensation on the users’ bodies. Thanks to advanced design and proprietary interference-cancellation technology, haptics don’t interfere with signal acquisition at all.
